Joshua (J Skillz) Naylor was born on October 22, 1987 in Hattisburg, Mississippi. Hattisburg was less than 30 miles away from Laurel, Mississippi; where he was raised. He was given his name by mother, Berniece Naylor. With no father present, Joshua’s uncles and older male cousins all together played the father role in his life. Wanting a better life for her and her son, Berniece moved away to Louisville, Kentucky in late 1989 to go to school leaving Joshua in Mississippi to live with his grandmother Johnny May Naylor and other family members. In 1998, Joshua moved to Louisville, Kentucky to be with his mother. At the age of 11, with a style and a swagger like none of the other kids, he gained a lot of popularity and attention from a lot of the neighborhood kids and kids from school. After becoming well known, Joshua felt like it was time to show off his talented side. He started showcasing every skill he had; drawing, singing, dancing, rapping, playing drums in the school band, and a lot of other musical talents. Throughout middle school on into high school, he entered many talent shows and placed at 2nd or higher in all of them. Now being recognized as a kid with advanced skills, Joshua gradually accepted the nick name “J skillz”. Due to lack of focus in school and a strong passion for his music, Joshua dropped out of high school his 11th grade year and started focusing on a music career. He started producing for up and coming local artist getting himself known locally as one of the hottest and youngest producers around. Being that there where a lot of artist and not enough producers, J skillz figured producing would get him heard quicker which would later open the door for him as an artist. He was right. His beats made people curious to hear what he was like with his lyrics. Every chance he got he showed off his skills by performing at talent shows, step shows, basketball games, and even college parties. He was officially known as J skillz the rapper/singer/producer. After being in and out of several different groups and music organizations, J skillz decided to recruit a few artist and start his own entertainment company entitled Southern Star Entertainment which is gradually taking off with J skillz as the owner, CEO, and first artist. Southern Star was put together in hopes of opening doors for more positive artist and producers from the Mississippi and Alabama areas. With visions and ideas as bright as his future, Jskillz and Southern Star Entertainment are destined for greatness.
