Biography
or recording artists Young Riez there is nothing he’d rather do than make music. Good music that is. The young rap trendsetter still continues to represent for his hometown of Riverdale, GA and continues to make doubters wish they had signed him a long time ago. Who would have known that the boy who was quiet in class, and often considered different than his peers would grow to become what most doubted, A Star. 2003 marked the coming out of Young Riez when he made it on Showtime at the Apollo in January. Winning was not his objective, but just having the opportunity to be on national T.V. was all he needed to take that next step into the recording industry.
As of 2007, The Prince of the South has plans of opening a new lane of music which will motivate and all ages can relate to. Young Riez growth as an artist can be heard from his 3 Mixtapes he’s released and his locally accepted Indie album “The Riezult”. Those moves found the young handsome MC garnering respect from his peers and even indie record labels. “I think its time for a change in Hip-Hop. The Hip-Hop scene in Atlanta is oversaturated with too many “for the moment” artists." I’m here to save face, because it’s boring, period”. Says the ambitious young artist, whose hottest song "A-Game" became a local sensation with women and surprisingly, the men also. "I was in the studio with my producer at the time, and we were going through albums, and we found a song called “Let me Love you down” by Inoj off the So So Def Bass All-Stars - Vol. 2.
When she made the beat I was kind of weary about the situation because I was wondering how it would be accepted. After a couple of listens I went and wrote to it overnight. The next day I came back and before we knew it, we had a hit.”
As of recently, Young Riez has been working hard on his next venture into the world of Hip-Hop with the release of his 4th Mixtape to date, simply entitled “iLIED”. “The reason I called it iLIED the mixtape was because, after my fourth time doing a mixtape I felt as if I was just repeating myself, and it was too many artist trying to do mixtapes, so I figured the 3rd one would be the last one”.
The iLIED mixtape will bring a breath of fresh air back into the game with Young Riez releasing a lot of unofficial remixes, as well as some new tracks of his own.
“Shout out to Slim C of Slim C Productions and JLK, they did the majority of my new material that’s on the mixtape. I was blessed with the opportunity to work with these people and the resulting factor of that is you got good music” says the young MC.
The lead single from the Mixtape is called “Is It My Swag” which was produced by Slim C, and it shows Young Riez stepping up to plate describing why he feels his hometown of Atlanta needs help. “The song basically speaks for itself. I’m telling these young dudes out here to just be yourself and don’t believe the hype. Rappers tend to get on these records and make up lives they never lived, but with me, I just give it to you straight with no strings attached”. The Mixtape is internet only and is slated for an August release. For Young Riez, Music will always be the one thing he loves, but he continues to stress education as the number one thing students must have.
In 2006, Riez graduated from Riverdale high school and earned his Diploma and is currently working to earn his Associates Degree in Art History from Gordon College. "Every where I go I try to stress education hard, and let kids know that knowledge is important. By today’s standards to go to school and do the right thing is crazy and looked down on, but think about it.
If you stay in school and get an education more doors and opportunities will open up for the future. Besides, wouldn’t you rather have something else behind your first name than your last name”, explains Young Riez.
No matter what the case may be, Riez is still the kid who grew up from Mc Callie Boulevard to Utoy Circle dreaming of making it big and opening doors for not only his family, but his peers also. Ever since that day at his first talent show at Kendrick Middle School Young Riez has had his eyes on the prize. By the time he was 15, doing shows late nights and hanging in the studio came natural to the aspiring MC.
Gathering inspiration from his favorite artist such as Ludacris, Jay-Z, Field Mob, Fabulous and Nas. “I think the first time I actually said that I really want to do this was when I saw the Sammie video for “I like it”. Even though he was singing, just seeing that somebody my age was doing what I knew I could do was all the conformation I needed” bolstered an energetic Young Riez.
Seven years later Young Riez is still going strong building up his empire known as Stand Up Entertainment, working on several Mixtapes and putting together another album for the fans to enjoy. 2007 plans to be a major year for the Atlanta Native as he seeks to find a home for his company (Stand Up Entertainment) and start making noise in the industry.
Though he plans to venture into other areas including movies, televisions and clothing, Hip-Hop will always be the field he’ll return to. When asked if he feels pressured to live up to the hype. Young Riez replies “This is what I do. At the end of the day I’m Wayne Edward Moore II who is trying to build an empire and can’t anything change that. I look at myself as being the normal guy in the industry because that’s all I am, plain and simple”, so at the end of the day, it is what it is.
